Austrian Airlines flight delayed or cancelled? What you can claim

Austrian Airlines is an airline from Austria. Under EU261, a long delay, a late cancellation or being bumped on Austrian Airlines can be worth up to €400 per passenger.

Which rules cover Austrian Airlines

  • EU261€250–€600

All Austrian Airlines flights that leave the EU, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland, and all Austrian Airlines flights that arrive there from elsewhere.

  • UK261£220–£520

All Austrian Airlines flights that leave the UK, and all Austrian Airlines flights into the UK.

  • Israel Aviation Services Law₪1,250–₪3,000

Austrian Airlines flights to or from Israel; cash compensation from 8 hours of delay or a cancellation.

Amounts are per passenger and depend on the flight distance.

Not owed when the cause was outside the airline’s control: bad weather, air traffic control, security, strikes by airport staff. Technical faults and the airline’s own staff usually are its responsibility.

How to claim from Austrian Airlines

Write to the airline with your booking reference, flight number and date and ask for compensation under Article 7 of Regulation 261/2004. If they refuse or don’t answer within about six weeks, complain to the national enforcement body of the country you flew from, or use a claim service.

Keep your booking reference, boarding pass and receipts for meals, hotels or taxis while you waited. Every passenger on the booking, children with a seat included, can claim the full amount.

For EU261 and UK261 cases. No win, no fee: AirHelp keeps 35% of the payout (VAT included), plus 15% if the case goes to court; Compensair keeps 30%, plus 10% if extra legal costs arise. Claiming directly from the airline is free.
