Emirates flight delayed or cancelled? What you can claim

Emirates is based in the United Arab Emirates. No fixed compensation applies on its routes here, but you may be owed a refund, care during the delay and proven costs.

Which rules cover Emirates

  • EU261€250–€600

Emirates flights that leave the EU, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland. Its flights into the EU from elsewhere are not covered, because Emirates is not an EU airline.

  • UK261£220–£520

Emirates flights that leave the UK (not its flights into the UK).

  • Emirates flights to, from or within the US: a cash refund if the flight is cancelled or changed a lot and you don’t travel. No cash for delays.

Amounts are per passenger and depend on the flight distance.

Not owed when the cause was outside the airline’s control: bad weather, air traffic control, security, strikes by airport staff. Technical faults and the airline’s own staff usually are its responsibility.

How to claim from Emirates

Write to the airline with your booking reference, flight number and date and ask for compensation under Article 7 of Regulation 261/2004. If they refuse or don’t answer within about six weeks, complain to the national enforcement body of the country you flew from, or use a claim service.

Keep your booking reference, boarding pass and receipts for meals, hotels or taxis while you waited. Every passenger on the booking, children with a seat included, can claim the full amount.

The claim services we work with take EU and UK cases; on this airline’s routes here you claim from the airline directly, which is free.
